One approach, called the mixed fnite element method (MFEM), also uses regular meshes.
However, as there are different materials at different integra tion points within one element, the large variation in gradients of local displacement can result in a slow rate of convergence for the MFEM.
As mentioned earlier, besides the traditional mesh generation methods, many advanced techniques (voxel FEM, DST, MFEM, XFEM, etc.) with different mesh schemes are used to generate fnite element meshes of braided composites.
